Tax Deductions & Receipts

Your Donation Makes a Difference (And is Tax-Deductible!)

Medical Equipment Distribution Services, Inc. is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. This means that your generous donations of gently used durable medical equipment are tax-deductible to the fullest extent allowed by law.

How it Works

When you donate a wheelchair, walker, hospital bed, or other medical equipment, you can claim the Fair Market Value of that item on your itemized tax return.

Determining “Fair Market Value”

By law, the IRS requires the donor (you) to determine the fair market value of the items donated. As the receiving charity, Medical Equipment Distribution Services, Inc. cannot assign a dollar value to your donated items.

Fair market value is generally considered the price that a willing buyer would pay a willing seller for the item in its current condition (e.g., what the item would sell for at a thrift store or online marketplace like eBay or Craigslist).

How to Request Your Donation Receipt

We gladly provide donation receipts for your tax records! When you drop off your equipment, or when we arrange a pickup, simply ask our representative for a Tax Donation Receipt.

The receipt will include:

  • Our official organization name and 501(c)(3) status.
  • The date of your donation.
  • A brief description of the items donated (e.g., “One gently used manual wheelchair”).

Disclaimer: Medical Equipment Distribution Services, Inc. does not provide tax or legal advice. Please consult with your personal tax advisor or the IRS guidelines (Publication 561) for specific information regarding charitable contributions.
